In these difficult times, we have been working with our partners to best ensure the safety of our employees, community of Members and Fellows, and Council. Today, we’ve come to the decision that:

  1. We are indefinitely postponing all of our public events in March, April and May. We will work with our speakers and partners to investigate alternatives to public events in the meantime, and will be writing to registered ticket-holders later today (Tuesday 17 March);
  2. As part of our continued commitment to writers, we will pay all of our speakers and BSL interpreters for these events, whether they take place or not;
  3. Our outreach work will continue as planned, with the exception of school visits with writers (which we suspended in the past weeks). All of our competition assets are available online so that young people can access our resources safely at home;
  4. We will work to develop new alternative initiatives to ensure the continued promotion of literature in all its forms. We will work with broadcast partners and create new opportunities to ensure that the power of words continues to sustain and inspire us in the coming difficult months.

From Wednesday 18 March, the RSL team will be working from home – please contact us by email if urgent – while it may take us a little longer than usual to respond, please stay in touch, and stay well.
