Are you passionate about changing lives through literature and championing the UK’s best writers? We are currently recruiting for two roles to join our small, busy team  – Engagement and Participation Manager and Public Events and Partnerships Manager.

Engagement and Participation Manager (£29,500-31,500 pro rata, fixed-term, part-time, option to be fully remote)

We are seeking an organised and motivated Engagement and Participation Manager to contribute to our work as the UK’s charity for the advancement of literature, engaging audiences in the RSL’s outreach programmes, particularly for young people and in prisons. As Engagement and Participation Manager, you will lead on the Society’s current outreach programmes and develop new initiatives to grow RSL audiences under-served by contemporary literary culture, and engage people through innovative participation models.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of current issues in literature and at least two years’ experience of engagement and participation/outreach programme design and management, preferably within a literature context. They will have exceptional interpersonal skills, and will thrive working independently alongside colleagues in our small tight-knit staff team. The Society has a strong team ethic and the successful applicant will work towards the organisation’s wider aims, identifying areas for growth and development of their work alongside colleagues and Trustees.

Public Events and Partnerships Manager (£29,500-31,500 pro rata, fixed-term, part-time, London-based with option for some home-working)

We are seeking an organised and motivated Public Events and Partnerships Manager to contribute to our work as the UK’s charity for the advancement of literature, engaging the public in great writing and extending the RSL’s partnerships across the UK and beyond. The Society has a strong team ethic, and the successful applicant will work towards the organisation’s wider aims, identifying areas for growth and development of their work alongside colleagues and Trustees.

In November 2020 the RSL launched its five-year 200th birthday festival, RSL 200. Over the coming years, the RSL 200 will explore, interrogate and reimagine the UK’s literary landscape as we celebrate the best in British writing, past, present and future. Through the festival, the RSL will continue to share literature with the greatest number of people across the UK and beyond, showing the power of literature to shape society and to change and individual life through new and continuing programmes.
