Returning to in person events
While we are thrilled to be returning to some in-person events, we have committed to continuing broadcasting all RSL events online into 2022.
Since March 2020, all RSL events have taken place online and we have been so pleased to meet literature lovers from all over the UK and across the world. Whether you live outside of the UK, can’t get a babysitter, are unable to travel or simply prefer attending events in your slippers, we want to welcome you! By becoming more accessible, we hope to connect more readers with writers and create a more inclusive RSL community.
To keep in touch while we couldn’t be together in person, we introduced a new ‘Digital Events Pass’, so there are now a number of ways to access RSL events:
- RSL Members and Fellows can attend events online or in-person for free, with a variety of additional benefits.
- Digital Events Pass Holders can attend events online for free.
- Non-members can buy online or in-person tickets for all public events via our venue partners, listed on the What’s On page of our website.
You can browse all of our subscription options here.
Returning to Venues Safely
If you decide to join us in person, your safety remains our top priority. Each venue has its own COVID safety guidelines in place – you can read them here.
We kindly ask that you adhere to venue policies, including following one-way systems and social distancing.
Following the government’s advice on face covering in crowded areas, we strongly recommend that you wear a face mask out of respect for others, unless you are exempt. Please, stay at home if you have any symptoms of illness such as a cough or fever or have been in contact with someone who has coronavirus in the past 14 days.
We recommend that you take a lateral flow test before travelling to an event, though the RSL will not request proof of this.
If you have any requirements or concerns that are not addressed in a specific venue’s COVID policy, please contact [email protected].
Changes to events
Although we will do our best to ensure events are presented as advertised, unavoidable programming changes may arise – sometimes at the last minute. We will continue to follow government guidance and communicate any information to you at the earliest opportunity, via email and our social media channels. RSL Members and Fellows and Digital Passholders will be contacted directly via email by [email protected]. Please do add this to your email address book to prevent it getting blocked by spam filters. If you have purchased a public ticket, you will be contacted by the box office of the venue.
Sometimes speakers will join us via video link and won’t be available for post-event book signings. This will be communicated clearly in the event description, or via email, if there is a last-minute change.
Event Cancellations
We will always do our best to avoid canceling or rescheduling an event. In the case that this is unavoidable, we will contact you at the earliest opportunity.
If an event is cancelled or rescheduled and you are an RSL Member or Fellow or Digital Passholder, you will be contacted via email [email protected]
If an event is cancelled or rescheduled and you have paid for a ticket, refunds will be subject to venue policy via the point of sale (usually the venue). Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions or you are unsure who you should contact.
