Kwame Dawes

Kwame Dawes was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2018.

Kwame Dawes spent most of his childhood and early adult life in Jamaica. He is the Glenna Luschei Editor of Prairie Schooner and Chancellor’s Professor of English at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. He has written 21 books of poetry and numerous books of fiction, criticism and essays. He is director of the African Poetry Book Fund and Artistic Director of the Calabash International Literary Festival. His awards include an Emmy and Webby for LiveHopeLove, an interactive website based on his project ‘HOPE: Living and Loving with AIDS in Jamaica’, and a Forward Prize for his first collection, Progeny of Air (1994).
