Boyd Tonkin

Boyd Tonkin was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2020.
Boyd Tonkin is a journalist, editor and critic who currently writes on literature and other arts for international media including The Economist, The Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and The Spectator. As Literary Editor and then Senior Writer of The Independent, he re-founded The Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, with Arts Council England, and judged it 2001-2015. He chaired the Man Booker International Prize 2016 and was the Prize’s special adviser, 2016-2019. His reader’s guide to global fiction, The 100 Best Novels in Translation, appeared in 2018. He is a Trustee of the Orwell Foundation and editorial adviser to the journal Critical Muslim.
