Christie Hickman

Christie Hickman was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2022.

Christie Hickman is an editor, journalist and critic. As a Literary Editor in the ‘80s, she was in the vanguard of a short story renaissance, publishing and interviewing the cream of British, Irish and American fiction and nurturing new talent.

In the ‘90s, as a reader and editor for some of the top publishing houses, she contributed essays to Peter Parker’s Reader’s Companion to the 20th Century Novel and worked with John Heilpern on his biography of John Osborne – A Patriot for Me – which won the 2006 Theatre Book of the Year award.

In 2021, she co-edited (with Donna Coonan) a special centenary volume of Patricia Highsmith’s selected stories for Virago, Under a Dark Angel’s Eye.

She is currently an editorial consultant to a literary agency, commissions short fiction for a national newspaper and continues to work with established authors and new writers.
