Nicholas Hytner

Nicholas Hytner was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2019.
Sir Nicholas Hytner became an Associate Director of the National Theatre in 1990, and directed Alan Bennett’s The Madness of George III. When a film adaptation was commissioned, Bennett insisted Hytner should direct it. The Madness of King George became his film debut. Hytner was Director of the National Theatre from 2003 to 2015 and introduced such innovations as live screenings to cinemas. He co-founded Bridge Theatre, the first wholly new theatre of scale to be added to London’s commercial theatre sector in 80 years.
