Nina Raine

Nina Raine was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2019.

Nina Raine is a playwright and director. Her debut play Rabbit won her the Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards for Most Promising Playwright. She dramaturged and directed the verbatim play Unprotected at the Liverpool Everyman, for which she won both the TMA Best Director Award and the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. After a production at the Royal Court, Tribes ran in New York for one year, where it won the Drama Desk Award for outstanding play, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play and the Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Play. Tiger Country was twice staged at the Hampstead Theatre, in 2011 and 2014. Consent was put on at the National Theatre in Spring 2017 and transferred to the West End. Stories was also staged at the National Theatre in 2018.

Her directing credits include her own plays Stories (National Theatre) and Tiger Country (Hampstead Theatre), Donkey Heart, written by her brother Moses (Trafalgar Studios), William Boyd’s Longing (Hampstead) and April De Angelis’ Jumpy at the Royal Court, transferring to the Duke of York’s Theatre.  She also directed Alia Bano’s Shades at the Royal Court, which won both Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards.
