Give A Book
We are proud to be working with Give A Book, a charity dedicated to promoting books and the pleasure of reading in the hardest places.
The COVID-19 outbreak has impacted the most vulnerable members of society particularly badly, perhaps none more than those in the UK’s prisons. With prisons visitations postponed indefinitely, most libraries closed, and no access to the internet, prisoners are now facing significant hardship with extremely limited contact with their networks of support.
Now more than ever, we hope that literature can provide a form of emotional support for those in difficulty. We are asking our community help Give a Book provide prisons with donations of books to be distributed on the wings –particularly foreign language books, which are in very short supply.
Give A Book are particularly looking for books in the following languages: Polish, Romanian, Albanian, Lithuanian, Bulgarian, Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Punjabi, and Farsi. Here is a list of prisons which would be grateful for donations, with some further language details.
Give A Book are currently able to accept donations of books in languages other than English. Please email [email protected] if you would like to make a donation.
We are grateful Arts Council England for awarding us an Emergency Grant, which will be, in part, put towards further work with Give A Book in the coming months
