A Reflection of the Past. A Look to the Future.

By: Leoni Mitchell

About The Poem

The theme of my poem focuses on resilience, both community and individual. The adversities we have faced during this difficult time.

The Poem

We had a moment to pause,
to reflect on what and who truly mattered;
our health, our loved ones, our happiness.

The rat race stopped.
Or so it seemed.

We truly understood the value of time and distance.
Another few weeks.
With nothing but a glass pane between us.
The rationale of this.
The intense suffering, felt and understood.

Over time our lives changed, forever it seemed.
Some left us… alone.
Whilst others entered.
The sad tears and joyful tears, limited by numbers.

Daily briefings were the message of the day.
Rule breakers fed up,
nothing would change, soon.

It began slowly
and developed momentum.
A sense of community was felt.
Resilient.
Although different to before.
As we had all shared this,
In some way. Our lives changed forever.
Now a part of history.
