Marking the beginning of its bicentenary celebrations in 2020, the RSL celebrates with Literature Matters: RSL 200, an event series bringing together RSL Fellows and some of the world’s best-known writers to explore the impact of literature on their lives.

RSL Fellow David Mitchell will be joined by artist and producer Brian Eno, for a conversation celebrating the power of music to connect across divisions, and its ability to inspire new writing. Both long-term fans of each other’s work, David and Brian have yet to share a stage. Join the RSL online for this unique discussion, chaired by journalist and documentary filmmaker Kieran Yates.

Kieran Yates (Chair) is a freelance journalist, broadcaster and documentary maker with a focus on current affairs, culture and politics

Brian Eno, musician, producer, visual artist and activist, first came to prominence as a founding member of Roxy Music. His visionary production includes albums with Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, while his list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie, David Byrne, Grace Jones, Karl Hyde and James Blake. His visual experiments with light and video continue to parallel his musical career with exhibitions all over the globe.

David Mitchell was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2013. Twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize, he has won the John Llewellyn Rhys, Geoffrey Faber Memorial and South Bank Show Literature Prizes, among others, and been named a Granta Best Young British Novelist. In 2018, he won the Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence.

Copies of David Mitchell’s new book Utopia Avenue are available here from independent bookshop Booka Bookshop.
