Join the Royal Society of Literature and Sevenoaks Bookshop for a conversation with RSL Fellow Nadifa Mohamed and BBC journalist Razia Iqbal in the days before Mohamed's latest novel, The Fortune Men, is published. Exploring forgotten and recent Black British history, this discussion will take us into the world of Mohamed's exquisite and confronting prose, and ask whether the truth can really be enough to save us.

’A writer of great humanity and intelligence. Nadifa Mohamed deeply understands how lives are shaped both by the grand sweep of history and the intimate encounters of human beings.’ Kamila Shamsie FRSL

Nadifa Mohamed was made a Fellow of the RSL in 2018. A British-Somali author and journalist, Mohamed was born in Somaliland in 1981 and grew up in the UK. Her first novel, Black Mamba Boy, won the Betty Trask Prize; was longlisted for the Orange Prize and shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, the Dylan Thomas Prize and the PEN Open Book Award. Her second novel, The Orchard of Lost Souls, won a Somerset Maugham Prize and was longlisted for The Dylan Thomas Prize. Mohamed was selected for the Granta Best of Young British Novelists.

The Fortune Men can be bought from our partners at Sevenoaks Bookshop, Chorleywood Bookshop and Village Books.
